Self Reflections

Jamie Moore Talk

The guest speaker on Friday was a great speaker. He talked a lot about the parkhurst with the food situation in different campus and different areas. He has been working in the food industry his entire life, from 16 years old to now. During his presentation to us, he elaborated to us that there are different people farming in different areas of the country, and the food being distributed to the different areas in the country as well. He showed us a diagrams of shipping goods to specific areas. He also explained distribution models, where specific campus’ where the food gets shipped. He seemed to be talking about himself and what he has done with the Parkhurst, but did not explain on how to be a “more sustainable campus” because we keep getting food shipped from different areas, which is damaging our climate and our earth.

EPORTFOLIO reflection

Overall, the Eportfolio process was a bit confusing to me. This is only my second time using Eportfolio. The first time was two years ago in my english class, but even then we only used it a little to upload essays. I found Eportofolio to be a little confusing at first. I especially confused about the ENV 240 window and all of the tabs. after completing my assignment, I forgot to submit it a few times. As the semester went on, I got more comfortable with Eportfolio. After a few error on my ends, my friend Sam helped me navigate Eportfoilio so I felt a little bit more comfortable after that. I feel that if I was on campus and had the support of a friend it would have had a big difference. I am more comfortable with Eportfiolio now and i think if i have a class that uses the eporiofolio in the future i will be able to manage a little bit better.

Communication reflection

Since remote learning began, the communication in this class was good but it could have been better considering I was new to online learning. I spoke to my classmate Xander a few times a week to discuss the final project proposal. Our first proposal was denied and Alethea helped us choose a new topic. While we were interested in the topic it was not our first choice. We struggled with the proposal on a variety of different levels. Because of the global pandemic, we could not connect vendors to get estimates. Looking back, we should have communicated more to our professor and told her about our struggles. We met with Alethea for the final work a couple of times about the project, but we could have met a few more times to discuss the project and other reflections/assignments. In addition, I should have emailed Alethea on a consistent basis considering the fact that we were struggling. I would have been very beneficial for me if I kept a log of questions and emailed Alethea on a weekly basis.
